” We chose to invest in the use of Safety Pods to ensure the safest use of RPI taking into consideration service user and staff experience. Upon supporting a service user to an extra care area where staff felt they would need to implement a seated restrictive intervention, the service user upon seeing the safety pod opted to jump into it and appeared calmer and relaxed.”
Nursing team were then able to interact with the service user and continue to support in the eca environment.
It has now been imbedded in our practice to utilise the safety pod if we are unable to contain a service user safely in a standing position. Before staff would of struggled with the service user and ended up in a supine or prone practice.
